Crappy weekend

Friday night was good as I won a $5 qualifier to the $50 "WSOP $1500 qualifier" on Poker Share which will be Wednesday night. Wish me luck!

Other than that I bubbled like 3 tournaments, and got wrecked in the cash games.

Hand from yesterday at $50 NL table on Poker Fantasy:

UTG+1 I have AK and raise to $2. (I have about $48)
UTG+2 raises all in to $5.00.
CO calls (deep stack has me covered)
SB calls all in his last $4.
BB calls (has like 10 left)
I RERAISE to $30 to hopefully get the dead money and be up against the 2 all ins.

UTG+2 calls, other guys fold.

flop K74 rainbow.

I push my last $18 or so. UTG+2 calls with TT.

Turn: T (GO FIGURE)

river is no help

I LOSE :(

That pretty much sums up my day yesterday.

One of my tournaments I finished 360 of 1300. Loose aggressive guy min raises in mid position and I was short stack on button and pushed with JTs. He thinks a while and calls with T9s. He hits the 9 on the river :(

Oh well.

Bubble boy

First off - (shameless self promotion) - Our money saving newsletter at Dreamline Savings is now free. Please check out the site and sign up for our free newsletter!

I am trying to take after Actyper and continuously bubble. I watched one of his tourneys today as I was playing and congrats to him for finally getting a $250 seat in the main WSOP tourney.

I've played 5 tournaments in the last couple of days. 4 were qualifiers for WSOP tourneys. Top 2 finishers get seats in each. I've managed to finish 3, 4, 3 and 5. The fifth place finish I just reraised all in with KK against AK and he flopped an ace with slightly more chips than me. Sigh.

My other tourney was the Thursday night Chiptalk.net tournament where there were 44 players and I finished 14th when I had TT.

UTG+1 raises, I call. Flop AT6. BEAUTIFUL (NOT!). He had AA and I was done.

Yesterday I donked off a $50 buyin in a cash game but I managed to win most of it back today.

My only tournament planned for the weekend is the 500 player point buy-in WSOP tourney on Pokerstars Sunday. Top 9 get a WSOP seat and there is another 100k worth of prize money. Wish me luck and may the flop be with you!

Chip and a chair

Second orbit around the table of a $30 tournament with 16 players.

10/20 blinds
UTG limps.
I raise to 70 and get 2 other callers and UTG calls.

4 to the flop
I have KJ.
Flop KJ3 rainbow

UTG checks. I bet 300 into a 300 pot.
Only UTG calls.

Turn 8.
UTG checks.
I push 900 into 900 pot.
He calls.
He has 33.

I have 115 chips left. UGH.

Folded to me in small blind, I push my last 115 with J9s. BB calls with K3.
Board comes 8874T and I double up.

A few hands later, I push my 200 chips and double up.
A few hands later, I push my 400 chips and triple up.

I now have my starting stack back with 1200 chips.

Dip down to 800 again but manage to more than triple up with AK after I push and get 2 callers.

Awesome comeback and I almost won the thing.

Got down to heads up and was down 12k to 6k in chips. he min raised, I called with QJ. Flop Q62. He pushed, I called. He showed 64 and hit the 4 on the turn to knock me out.

After being in last place with 115 chips left I managed to finish 2nd out of 16 for a $294 payday :) Yay!

Motivators

Silly post today.

Someone posted this "create your own motivator poster" site on chiptalk today.

Here's what I came up with:

In The Money

I played in the Chiptalk.net Thursday night tournament as usual. tonight is the first tourney of the new quarter. After last night's crappy play in the $11 R&A, I wanted to make a good showing and that I did.

I caught a set against AA early and doubled up I 3 bet all in. I continued to build up a nice stack and then got someone with a slightly smaller stack to get all his chips in against my AA. I was in the top 10 the whole way and top 3 as we hit the final table of 9. I managed to win a big pot with KQ and became the chip leader with 7 left.

I feel like I played very well and only really made one mistake. I was the chip leader and tried a blind steal. BB called who was a tricky player. He check raised me on the flop when I probably should have checked. Not really much of a mistake but I lost 3500 of my 17k chips on that hand. I managed to get them back and top 5 got paid. With 3 left I was short stack with 16k against 20 and 25k and I got my chips in with the best hand:

Final Pot: t36319

Results in white below:
SB has 8s 7h (two pair, eights and sevens).
Hero has Qs Th (one pair, tens).
Outcome: SB wins t36319.

Oh well. Nothing I can do but sucks to lose that way. At least hit the straight if you're going to take me out. Not bad though.

I also managed to make $100 on Party while clearing the $100 bonus pending. So overall I made about $240. Too bad I can't do that every day. Hopefully one day I can :) Til then, may the flop be with you!

Tournament Pocket Overpair in multiway pot

Ok today I will discuss what is one of my biggest problems. I limp with medium pairs 88-JJ often when there are already limpers behind me. I think to myself, hit the set or get out. I assume an A, K or Q is going to hit the flop. Then the board comes 3 undercards and I have a brain fart.

Here is my hand in question from last night's $11 Rebuy and Addon on Pokerstars:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.comFlopTurnRiver.com (Format: Plain Text)

MP2 (t6800)
MP3 (t13775)
Hero (t5350)
Button (t11265)
SB (t3315)
BB (t10850)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Ts, Td.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls t200, 2 folds, MP3 calls t200, Hero calls t200, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (t1000) 8s, 7d, 6c (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP3 bets t1000, *****

Now let's analyze.

I have an overpair and an inside straight draw.
5 players in the pot.
Anyone could have T9, 87, 76, 66, 77, 88.

Other possible holdings are 98, 97 maybe a couple other weak hands?

So all signs point to my tens not being good. Someone could already have a straight. So what do I do?

******

Hero raises to t5150, SB folds, BB folds, UTG+1 folds, MP3 calls t4150.

Turn: (t11300) 8h (2 players)

River: (t11300) Jc (2 players)

Final Pot: t11300

Results below:
MP3 has 7h 7c (full house, sevens full of eights).
Hero has Ts Td (two pair, tens and eights).
Outcome: MP3 wins t11300.

Overpairs are not the nuts and I have to drill it through my head. Multitabling at the time didn't help either. I'll get it right next time.

Sabina Gadecki

Who you ask? Sabina Gadecki will be Courtney Friel's replacement on the World Poker Tour for Season 5. Not much is known about her other than she was Miss Polonia World 2002 and does modeling and acting in New York theater. She's still no Shana Hiatt, but hopefully she'll be better than Courtney Friel, which isn't asking for much. Maybe she plays poker in New York too?

I tried my hand at some Pot Limit Omaha last night and quickly realized I have no idea how I should bet. When I had top set and there was no straight or flush on the board, I pretty much just kept potting it and would put in a blocking bet on the river if the board went awry. Then I'd fold to the raise :( So I lost about $8 on each table. I need to read up more on when to put in half pot bets or full pot bets. I also need to figure out what I'm doing with hands like AAKx double suited. I raised the pot preflop got 2 callers. Board came TT6 with 2 spades of which I had none. I bet the pot on the flop hoping there were no tens and no draws but I got called so I gave it up when no ace came on the turn. Oh well, time to find a good book.

I played a $4.40 NL satellite on Full Tilt as well. Got heads up, had a 9k/4k lead all in with 66 against his 33. The board came 4 clubs and he took the lead with a flush. I then got all in with 66 against his QQ and the 6 came for my set giving me the lead again. But it was not to be as we kept going back and forth and the blinds went up, I had AT and raised preflop. He called. Flop was KT8. I bet the pot which pretty much pot committed me and he reraised all in with K9. No help, I had 500 chips left, JJ vs AK he hit the ace and I was done. Oh well again.

That's it for now. May the flop be with you!

Thank you PSO

After some crappy tournaments the last two days, I finally cashed in the PSO Poker Rewards freeroll. Only 75 players (there were supposed to be one hundred something but they messed up). Top 30 get paid and 30th gets $50 and 24th to 20th gets $105 and so on. First paid almost 2k.

I got a lot of decent hands early but didn't get anywhere and was stuck with a small stack the whole way. I managed to hang on for 24th place and win $105. yay

Right before this, however, I bubbled in the $30 Poker Fantasy tournament. Finished 4th out of 13. I thought I was going to cash when QQ got all in against 99. A 9 came on the flop and then the Q on the turn, giving me false hope. A couple hands later I pushed my short stack with AJ and guy had TT and held up.

Pokerstars has their double FPP promo going for the next so I played some 2/4 limit last night and started out great. Caught full houses with QQ on each table and was up $150 real quick. Then everything went south. Got QQ again...table came 763Q3 and guy had 33. I had AA that got whacked on the river by 72o. So I walked away up $20 but also cleared a $150 bonus.

That's about it for the moment. May the flop be with you!

Tournaments

I received Tournament Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky the other day. I used my Poker Stars Frequent Player Points to get it. I've heard there isn't much exciting in it but a few things are helpful. I'm only about 60 pages in and there isn't anything exciting to report yet.

Most of my play has been large tournaments the last couple of days and I'm either getting sucked out on or making stupid plays.

Today's suckout:
300 player freeroll on Poker Fantasy:
BB with 92o
Flop 932 rainbow
I bet flop 80 chips into 80 chip pot.
One caller, button raises to 160.
I reraise all in to 1100 or so, button calls with A3?????
Turn 3, river A.
Ugh.

Last night's stupid play:
$5.50 Rebuy and Addon Tourney on Pokerstars.
260 players left, down from 1400.
130 get paid.
600/1200 blinds, I have 27000 chips. SB has me covered.
Folded to SB who raises to 6000.
I have ATo.
What do I do? I go into "he could have a wide range of hands" mode and I push all in
He shows AQ and I'm done.
I had also just recently open raised twice, continuation bet and had to give it up on the turn after I got called both times. Tilt?

Lately I've been questioning myself a lot after the fact in tournaments. Hopefully TPFAP will help and rereading Harrington's books will as well.

Not a lot of cash game play lately, so I'm up about $300 or so for the month overall.

Tomorrow is PSO's 10k freeroll at Poker Rewards. Hopefully a nice cash there will make up for all my miserable play lately :)

Good luck and may the flop be with you!

Slowly creeping back

I've won back about $140 of the $200 I lost the other night plus I've cleared some bonus money so I'm about -15 playing and about +160 in bonuses this month so far. Not great, but positive territory is always good. I'm not going to have as much time to play as last month so unless I win big in any large tournaments I play, I probably won't have as nice a month as April.

Congrats to RiverRun who won the PSO league. I'm not sure where I finished overall but my 19th place finish in the final game last night should put me in the top 25 at least. I had to make top 10 I think to get anything extra. Maybe next league.

That's it for now. May the flop be with you!

Off Track Again

I decided to try a 1/2 NL table and bought in with $200.

I have problems that I still need to overcome. Overplaying big pairs is becoming an issue for me. I have QQ. I raise to $7 and the BB calls. The flop comes T94 with 2 clubs. BB leads out $7. I raise to $22. He reraises to $37.

My read is that he is very loose and aggressive. A 48vpip/10pfr guy. Instead of waiting to put my money in on a better spot, what do I do? I push all in for $150. Why? I have no idea. I need to get a better bearing on how to handle this situation. I should know I'm in trouble and let the hand go but my conspiracy theory head thinks I'm just getting bluffed out of a pot. Well the guy has AA and no Q for me and I'm down. A lot. So I need to get my head straight and not commit my chips with just an overpair. One of these days I'll get it right.

I've won half of that back so far and will hopefully have the rest and more before the weekend is over. So I'm hovering around even for the month now overall.

That's it for now. May the flop be with you!

Back on track

After a very rough Sunday and a poor start Monday for a $20 loss, Tuesday finally turned the tide. Most of my losses the last two days were at Poker Share, a new room offered by Poker Source Online. As soon as I saw them put it up, I signed up right away hoping to be one of the first to get an extra 5000 PSO points for the first 5 to sign up. They will announce the first 5 soon.

Anyway, I started with $200 and there is a 100% up to $300 signup bonus. Looking at the structure I could tell the points would take a while to get so I did less than the max. So I need 2000 Poker Share points to clear the bonus but only 500 points to clear PSO's requirements. I have 473 now I think so I will finish it up Wednesday night.

Tuesday brought the luck back to my side of the table and I finally managed to win with a set. Of course my set was a dog but still. 765 flop, I had 55. Guy bets $2.50, one caller, I raise to $10, original guy reraises all in for $40 or so. I gulped and called. He has 84 for the flopped straight. Lucky for me, I hit quads on the river and took the pot. Was it a bad call? I called 40 to win 60. 2 clubs on the board too so he could have had like A7s or something. Worked out for me at least.

One of the 1/2 6max tables was nuts. It was 4 PSOers and 2 maniacs. And oh my the maniacs were having a field day. Everything was hitting for them. Guy would 3 bet with 52o and hit a straight. 42s hit a flush. It was crazy. My stack flew all over the place. I was up 10 when I flop top set 975 with 2 spades. Guy has JcJs and runner runner spades come and he takes the pot.
I was then down a few and lost another big hand on the river. I finally got back up and left with +$10 on that table. Maniac guy was like +150 or so. Crazy.

I finished the day up about $170 and my -90 on PokerShare is now +50. Thank goodness.

Forgot to mention the last couple of weeks that our cable company gave us reward cards to see a free movie at the local theater each week. Today we went to see Sentinel with Michael Douglas, Keifer Sutherland, Eva Longoria and Kim Bassinger. It was an ok movie. Entertaining but lacked a little something toward the end. Worth a view on DVD or cable though.

Last week was Ice Age 2. It was good but not as good as the first.

The first week we saw Inside Man. That was an excellent movie. I highly recommend it. Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Clive Owen are awesome.

Anyway, I'm tired so may the flop be with you!
