Zelda music in my head...

Wow it's been a week since my last post. Haven't felt like writing much lately. Holiday weekend and been busy the last few days. That coupled in with Zelda: the Minish Cap which my wife was nice enough to buy me :) Almost done with that then back to poker.

Last night I got to play in what I believe to be the first ever online HORSE tournament. It was a private tournament on Full Tilt that I was able to get the password for. It was a lot of fun but I didn't last too long. If you don't know, HORSE is a multi game event which (usually changes each table round) but here they changed the game every 10 minutes...each time the blinds went up.

I was coaching in Omaha in 1948...

Well for those of you who are hockey fans you will recognize the title of this post from the movie Slap Shot. Unfortunately this post also marks the cancelling of the NHL season. No hockey this year. THAT SUCKS. But from the title...I don't pretend to be an expert in Omaha but I've done incredibly well the last couple weeks in Omaha tournaments. Luck? Skill? Not sure exactly, but I'll keep playing the way I'm playing.

Tuesday was horrible for tournaments but I made up for it Wednesday. Tuesday afternoon I started the 2:45 tournament and was promptly done by 2:50. Finished 1635 of 1665. 4th hand of tournament I get AA. Blinds are 10/15 and I raise to 50. I get reraised to 85. 3rd guy calls. 4th guy goes all in. I go all in...other 2 go all in. So its AA vs KK vs TT vs 83. I have no clue what the 83 guy was thinking...maybe just trying to buy the pot. Flop comes KT5 and that was it for me.

Last night I got knocked out of the 11pm tourney with another fun hand. I'm in the big blind with 55. blinds are 50/100. one caller then guy raises to 250. we both call. Flop comes Q95. I check...check...original raiser bets 800 ( about the size of the pot). I raise him all in. the 3rd guy calls and I knew I was toast. He shows QQ, original raiser KK. Turn and River comes T and J. KK hits his straight and kills both our sets. Thems the breaks.

So tired

I need to start going to bed earlier. 2-3am has been the norm lately. I need to stop that. Or rather I need to stop doing well in the 11pm tournament :) Guess that's a rough problem. I hung on for dear life as the short stack in PLO. I almost made my stand with about 14 left but there hadn't been preflop raising in a long time and someone finally popped it when i had KKxx. I decided not to push all in and I luckily made it another 20 minutes or so to get in the money :)

I'm in the money

Great day for poker in my opinion :) cashed in 3 tournaments and even did well at 2/4. Played well in both NL tournaments and played great in an Omaha hi/lo tourney. I should have finished better than 4th but 2 hands in the last 2 rounds I had scoop potential that got killed on the river by a board pair. at least in the first hand I had the low to split. second one I had the nut straight on the turn. I had AKQ2. Flop came 89T. Turn was the J. all 4 suits out so no worry about flush. only thing that screws me is if the board pairs and he hits a full house. And of course thats what happened. But I won the most I've ever won in a multi table tournament :) $36.85 yay

Final table goodness

My first large tournament final table in NL yay! I played the $5 11:00PM tourney wednesday night. Luckily I took an hour nap beforehand because I was up until 2:45 or so. But I played well and had a nice 9th place finish out of 259 entrants. I played well early and was 4th in chips of 119 after the first break. Wasn't getting many good hands after that and overplayed a couple of them and was 35 of 43 at the second break. 27 people got paid. Until last night I had been playing not to lose and make it into the money. This time I decided to push whenever i had a slight edge so that I'd have a stack to build on if I made it into the money. The goal is to win of course. So I did well and never had a really big stack in comparison to the blinds, but my hands were holding up when I went in as a favorite. Very late night but very fun :)

I'd like to buy a clue please

A clue as to what I want to do. My wife hates her job. I don't mind programming, but I'd much rather find something I truly enjoy that pays the bills. Poker obviously is not going to pay the bills. At least not yet. Haven't played a whole lot the last few days. The cards are just not coming when I do play lately. Maybe I need to take a break for a few days from 2/4 and go to .5/1 and 1/2 to win back what I've lost. Back to the old drawing board.

2 Tourney cashes

Another milestone today as I cashed in not one, but two tournaments today. Unfortunately one was not the $200 NL tourney I won an entrance into for a spot in a $10000 tourney. I started out well and managed to double up early with QQ against JJ. I played well the first hour and was 22nd of 88 at the first hour break with 6135 chips. Avg chip stack was 4329. I managed to screw myself with AK when the BB called with T6o and hit his 6. I lost 2000 chips in the process. The blinds were going up and I needed to do something. 200/400 blinds with 50 ante and I had 1600 chips left. I pushed with 77 and the same guy called with T7s this time. You guessed it, the T hit the river and I was just a memory. 35 of 127. I was playing the $5 tourney at the same time on party and did pretty well. I cashed again and finished 125 of 2000. Then I played in a $1 Omaha hi/lo tourney which by no means do I claim to be any good and I finished 4th of 88. So no trip to a big tournament for me, but 2 cashes in one day makes me happy. If I can keep it up maybe I'll get the big money one day.

Friday night I played live with a couple of my friends. One of these days I will figure out exactly what Moby does because he is very hard to read. I made one major mistake when I was too timid of losing. We were heads up and I was shortstacked. I had A6o and the flop came 992. Check-check. Turn was an Ace. He bet right into me and I should have just thought some more and realized that he was bluffing because if he hit the ace or had a 9 he would have checked again and waited til the river. I should have called or moved all in but instead I was worring if I was outkicked and I threw my hand away like a moron. I learned from that mistake in the online tournaments today and I outbluffed a couple of people betting into scare cards. Unfortunately I didn't do it Friday night and I lost. I'll get you next time!

Yay I cashed!

I have finally finished in the money in the $5/1 tournament. Finished 88 of 1664. Didn't win a ton but at least it's something. You have to start somewhere. I am very pleased with the way I played. I only made one mistake when I was in the BB with K3 flop came KT8 and i got owned by AA. lost most of my stack at that point but I was able to build it back up. Later on blinds were 500/1000 and I had 11000 chips or so. I was second to act and I went all in with KK. I got called by the big stack who had 90000 chips and AQs. The ace fell on the river and I was toast. I felt a lot more comfortable in this tournament and I'm one step closer to winning. I also had my best limit Omaha hi/lo finish so far as well. I usually get destroyed in limit tournaments but I played pretty well until my last hand.

Getting ripped a new...

Victory at 2/4 continues to elude me. In the span of 40 hands I had 3 suckouts by a guy who was playing almost any two cards. I know in the long run I will make money off these people but it gets frustrating. This seems to be the norm as of late. Variance taking its toll I guess. I flopped 2 pair with T4 on a flop of T42. This guy called with J2s in middle position. Of course i bet he calls all the way down. the J falls on the river and I'm beat by higher two pair. Just frustrating.
I played a little .5/1 after that and the table broke up pretty quickly. But a couple of us stayed and I figured I'd get some short handed practice. I was heads up with this one guy for about 15 hands and I took like $7 off him. a couple more people joined and I played very aggressive and ended up up $25 after like 20 minutes. Not bad...helps recoup some of what I lost at 2/4.

One of these days

One of these days I'll get back into playing limit well again. I've gone back over some of my play the last few weeks and it doesn't look like I'm making a ton of mistakes. I've had my share I'm sure but there have been a lot of suckouts and sessions where I just didn't get cards. Once I have some time I'll reread some books and make sure I'm on the right track.
