Movin right along

It's 2AM and I'm on a nice adrenaline rush. I won a $4 single table tournament this afternoon which won me a token into a $24 sit and go which I am pleased to announce that I won tonight :) That gets me an entry into a $200 tournament next Saturday. If I can do well in that I have a shot at a $10,000 buyin seat an a Harrah's WSOP tournament of my choosing yay. So wish me luck. Didn't do too well at the limit tables today but I'm still really happy :)

Played a fun hand in a sit and go though...i went all in with 99 two more guys went all in with AA and QQ and the big stack called us all with QJs. 3 clubs hit the board and knocked all 3 of us out.

Up the ladder

Wasn't feeling all that great all day so I didn't do too much. Played a little bit and I was very pleased. The $5 NL tournament had 1613 in it today. I started building a stack about an hour into the tourney when I got dealt KK. Guy next to me pushed all in, which he had done 2 or 3 other times in the last couple of orbits. I had enough chips to cover so I called. Of course he shows AA and I lose most of my stack. I got to double up a few orbits later when deuces held up against AQ. I made it to 270th place with a short stack and pushed in with AJ of hearts. I got called by J8 of clubs. Couldn't hope for much better than that. But boom right on the flop he had a straight and I was done. No queen falling to at least give me a split. That was my best finish yet and I'm very happy with the way I played. I also finished 20 of 81 in a $1 7 card stud hi/lo tourney and 11 of 30 in a Pot Limit Omaha tourney. So no money won but I came close in all three. I'm getting there.

Feelin Good

I didn't get to play a whole lot the last couple of days. Ran errands. Went to the mall. Food shopping all on Monday. Had to do a bit of freelance work today. However, I did get to play for a few hours tonight and I'm quite happy with today's results. I just got done with a 7 card stud tournament. 55 people entered and 8 get to the final table and I'm happy to say I was one of them. Now unfortunately for said hero, 7 people got paid and I finished 8th. On the bubble as usual. I held on for a long time though and had 4 to a flush and had to go all in. No club in sight. It's out there some where. Damn clubbies. I played in a $5 NL tourney also and finished 391 of 1780. So I am slowly learning how each situation needs to be played and I will get into the money and eventually win a tournament. I think I need to set aside time each day to reread some books. Hopefully that will help as well.

What to do What to do

Not a great day at the poker tables. Got to shovel a lot of snow today though. Looks like a foot or so. One of these years we need to move to a warmer climate. Still need to figure out what to do to make money. We're still looking for that one great business idea. Of course, we've been looking for years and still haven't come up with something worth shooting for.

As for the tables, I finished 67 of 252 in a NL tourney because I trapped myself. I limped in with aces and someone hit 2 pair on the flop. I had a nice chip stack built up but the guy had twice my chips and put me all in after i bet the pot on the flop. I guess I shouldn't have called. One of these days I'll learn how to let go of big hands.

May the odds be with you

Yesterday I experienced one of the worst suck outs (in my mind at least). Only because I was playing well and i thought I had a real shot at money. I was playing in a 2000 person $5 tournament. I pushed all in with KK and was called by AK. If an Ace fell so be it, but to lose because 4 spades hit the board while I have the K of spades and he has the A of spaces just sucks. I finished 446 of 2000 and top 220 got paid. Oh well there will be more tournaments and in the same situation again I'll win the majority of the time.

Omaha - the game not the city

I'm really starting to enjoy the game of Omaha. There are a lot more nuances than in Hold'em and in these tournaments it seems a lot of people don't understand them. I'm not an expert by any means yet, but I'm enjoying the game and hopefully I learn how to play better. Time to read up some more on it. I played a $1 tourney and finished 15th of 107. Not bad at all. 18 got paid. Unfortunately in a $1 tourney you only get $1.37 back for 15th place. Still I'm happy. I played a 7 stud tourney as well but was playing a bunch of tables at the same time so wasn't paying much attention.

I realized last night how much I am missing hockey. Oh how I would love to go to a Devils game right now. I was just thinking how much fun it is to be at the stadium sitting on the edge of your seat hoping for a goal. Come on NHL get your act together! And along with that fantasy hockey needs to fill a void too. The old EOTL league needs to be fired up so I can beat the likes of Ransom (there I mentioned you).

Hi/Lo and all that razz

I didn't get to play a whole lot Thursday. But I did pretty well overall. I played my first ever Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo tourney. I only made one mistake and of course it cost me dearly. The point of a tournament is survival. There were 6 left in the tournament and I was 4th in chips. 3 people got paid. I had AJ34 with 2 hearts and the board had AJ96 with 2 hearts showing. so I had a great draw to the flush, the low and I already had top two pair. Stupid me raised all in. I think I was about a 60/40 favorite going to the river but my opponent had trip 6s and they held up to take the whole pot. Still not bad for my first PLO Hi/lo tourney. I need to work on my tournament play for all games. It seems I finish very close to the money every time but rarely break that threshold. I need to get more aggressive in the middle stages. Hopefully I can change that in coming games.

Inaugural Post

Welcome to the inauguration of my blog. I can't promise this will always be worth reading, but if nothing else the purpose of this journal is to keep me focused and let my friends and whoever else cares read about what I'm up to. If you don't know me or haven't talked to me in a while I started playing poker online a lot last year. I was laid off December 1 and have since been playing a lot. December was a lot of fun and I made over $1000 in about 3 weeks. The month of January has not been as good for me though. I am down only a little bit but I keep having good days and bad days and not getting anywhere.

I have done some freelance work for a company called Corner Edge and will hopefully have a couple more with the opportunity down the road to become a full time employee. In the meantime I get to follow my "pipe dream" of playing poker and maybe one day winning some major tournament and a whole lot of money.

I actually set up this blog a few days ago but had a couple of losing days. I decided to start this off on a good note.
